The following information relates to services performed at our clinics in the Waikato, Lakes, and Bay of Plenty regions.
Private insurance
Southern Cross Health Insurance members
Hamilton Radiology (including Midland MRI, Mokoia & Focus Radiology) is an Affiliated Provider with Southern Cross Health Insurance. This allows us to seamlessly handle the claiming process for radiology services on your behalf, contingent upon the specifics of your policy plan.
Policy limits
The extent of out-of-pocket expenses you may encounter is directly tied to the parameters outlined in your selected policy. We can check this for you on the day of your examination and let you know before your examination exactly how much your contribution will be.
- RegularCare, KiwiCare and First Cover plans – 80% coverage of the diagnostic imaging service up to policy limits.
- Some other plans– 100% coverage of the diagnostic imaging service up to policy limits.
Other insurance providers
Prior approval
Securing prior approval for your radiology service eliminates the need for any upfront payment, unless there are other shortfalls that apply.
It is important to note that even with prior approval, you are required to file a claim with your insurance company post-examination. Simply provide them with your invoice copy, alongside the assigned prior approval number. The subsequent payment will be directly remitted to us by your insurance company.
We can only assist with claims for Southern Cross insurance due to our exclusive agreement with them. Unfortunately, we are unable to help with claims for any other insurance providers.
Surcharges & co-payments
Some of our services can incur additional charge, above the government contribution. Where relevant, you will be informed of this prior to having your scan.

Pregnancy (obstetric) scans
Ultrasound imaging for pregnancy screening incurs a surcharge. The payment of these charges is required on the date of the examination.
Please reach out to your local clinic for the fee for a pregnancy ultrasound.
Accident Compensation Commission (ACC)
The ACC provides support and compensation for individuals who suffer injuries, including those related to medical treatments and diagnostic procedures like medical imaging. You will have to have registered your injury with ACC through your referring medical practitioner.
Please reach out to your local clinic for the co-payment ACC fee for the imaging services you require.
