About Dr Dana Tipene-Hook

Dr Dana Tipene-Hook is a highly experienced indigenous doctor with over 20 years of dedication to the field of diagnostic radiology. Graduating as a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in 2010, she has contributed significantly to healthcare in New Plymouth for the past 15 years.

In her role, Dr Tipene-Hook operates as a General Radiologist, however, is proficient in a wide range of imaging modalities including MRI, CT, and USS across various medical specialties such as musculoskeletal, oncology, obstetrics and gynaecology, gastroenterology and urology. Alongside her clinical duties, she has demonstrated leadership capabilities by serving as Clinical Director of a hospital radiology department and as a board director of private radiology companies.

Dr Tipene-Hook's commitment to medical education and research is evident through her involvement in teaching, presenting at multidisciplinary team meetings, and contributing to RANZCR committees. Her dedication extends to mentoring aspiring radiologists, notably guiding the only Aboriginal radiology registrar to consultant status.

Outside of medicine, Dr Tipene-Hook finds balance through her passions for fitness, martial arts, and community involvement. She continues to pursue her athletic interests, including training at the gym and reigniting her love for taekwondo, where she once aimed for Olympic candidacy. Additionally, she actively supports initiatives such as Green School NZ, exhibits her champion bull terrier, and finds joy in raising a thriving family.
